Our Rural Internet – Acceptable Use & Abuse Policy

Purpose

This policy outlines what is considered fair and responsible use of Our Rural Internet (ORI) services. By using our service, you agree to avoid activities that negatively impact our network or violate legal or ethical standards. This policy applies to everyone using your connection, whether at home or in your business.



Prohibited Activities

You may not use ORI services for any of the following:

  • Illegal or harmful actions, including fraud, harassment, or criminal activity

  • Publishing, transmitting, or accessing content that is offensive, abusive, defamatory, obscene, or infringes on any person’s rights

  • Sending spam, chain letters, or unsolicited marketing messages

  • Transmitting malware, including viruses, corrupted files, or any software intended to harm devices or networks

  • Invasion of privacy, such as collecting or sharing information without consent

  • Copyright or license violations, such as pirated software or falsified attributions

  • Disrupting the network, including denial-of-service attacks or any action that could degrade service for others

  • Bypassing authentication or accessing systems you’re not authorized to use

  • Granting external access to your ORI service to people outside your household or business

  • Running high-volume or unauthorized services, such as large-scale email blasting or persistent data transfers

  • Recording or monitoring individuals without their knowledge in private spaces or in violation of applicable laws

  • Accessing or sharing content that you know (or should reasonably know) cannot be legally accessed or distributed



Security Responsibilities

You are responsible for securing your account and equipment. This includes:

  • Keeping all usernames and passwords confidential

  • Preventing unauthorized access to your ORI service

  • Notifying ORI immediately if you suspect a breach or misuse of your connection



Your Responsibility for Others

You are responsible for all use of ORI services on your account—whether by you, your household members, employees, or guests. This includes unauthorized activity, even if you were unaware it was occurring.

If you allow others to use your internet connection, make sure they understand and follow this policy.



Reporting Misuse

To report any violation or suspected abuse of ORI services, please submit a support ticket.



What Happens If You Violate This Policy

If a subscriber violates this policy, either ORI or the underlying infrastructure provider may:

  • Apply temporary traffic shaping or throttling

  • Issue a notice to stop the misuse

  • Suspend or limit service without prior notice

  • Recommend or require a plan change

  • In cases of repeated or unresolved abuse, terminate service entirely
